Alvin Bragg finally announces charges for migrants who beat NYPD officers

Last month, two NYPD officers were brutally beaten in broad daylight by a group of illegal migrant thugs. The attack outraged the nation and put one of America's most radical prosecutors in a tight spot.

Some of the suspects got away completely and are still on the run, and two of the suspects were quickly released from jail, which triggered a mountain of backlash that has seemingly forced DA Alvin Bragg to switch gears on the matter.

According to the New York Post, Bragg finally announced that his office would take action against the suspects, securing 7 indictments from a grand jury.

Bragg cornered

During his announcement of the indictments, Bragg showed the shocking footage of the attack, most of which was caught on cameras. This shocking footage was likely what forced Bragg to act, considering his past refusal to prosecute hardened criminals.

"This assault, as it did to many of you, sickened me and outraged me," Bragg said conveniently after days of public outrage in the wake of two of the suspects being released after the attack.

The Post noted:

Suspects Yoherny Brito, 19, Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, 19, Yorman Reveron, 24, were each charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, a class D felony, for either kicking, grabbing, or wrestling with officers during the incident.

Bragg had the nerve to defend letting the suspects go after the attack, claiming that his office needed to wait until they had "all the facts," even though the video footage showed all of the "facts" needed for a charge.

"The only thing worse than failing to bring perpetrators to justice is if we ensnare innocent people in the criminal justice system," Bragg said in defending the decision to wait to charge the violent, illegal migrants.

Cops turn on Bragg

NYPD cops, including rank-and-file officers and leaders, criticized Bragg at the time for letting the suspects go, one of which became even more infamous as he flipped off the cameras when he was released from holding.

"Alvin Bragg just showed all New Yorkers that the Police Department doesn’t matter to him," a detective with two decades in the NYPD said at the time. "What this does is open the window for all people to say we can beat up cops and nothing is going to happen to us. Thanks, Mr. Bragg."

Many called for Bragg to be removed from his position as a result of his decision, including Republican lawmakers and social media users alike.

"New York needs to hold a recall election and remove him from his position," one X user wrote.

Clearly, Bragg felt the heat of his asinine decision to let them go so early and now he's scrambling to correct his actions before he's thrown out of office.
