Cyndi Lauper's son arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm after shooting

Cyndi Lauper fans were stunned recently to learn that a member of her family was arrested on gun-related charges.

Declyn Lauper, the son of 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' singer, was arrested in New York City earlier this month and ultimately hit with a gun possession charge.

According to Yahoo Entertainment, the younger Lauper was bailed out of the serious charge by his famous father, "Law & Order" actor David Thorton.

It wasn't Declyn Lauper's first run-in with the law, as he was arrested and charged "with felony unauthorized use of a vehicle in July 2022."

What happened?

Authorities reported that a 24-year-old male was shot in Harlem Wednesday night.

Declyn Lauper and another individual reportedly took an Uber to Harlem just minutes before the shooting occurred.

Yahoo noted:

Wednesday evening, a rapper’s car was allegedly swarmed by five armed individuals, and a shot was fired, hitting another individual in the leg, prosecutors alleged.

Declyn Lauper's situation isn't looking good, as it was reported that he was found shortly after the shooting occurred with a fanny pack that contained a loaded Glock handgun. Police say he also had blood spatter on his shoes.

Yahoo added:

Another gun was found at the scene where the victim was shot, according to a criminal complaint. The victim in the Harlem shooting was identified as Omar Lewin, who was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital where he is in stable condition, per the New York Daily News.

The popular singer's son was ultimately charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm. "The defendant and the separately apprehended individual drove to the location both with firearms to engage in what appears to be illicit activity,” Assistant District Attorney Harriet Jiranek said in a statement.

Dad to the rescue

Thorton was reportedly spotted at the Manhattan Criminal Court "with an envelope carrying $20,000 in cash," according to the New York Post.

Social media users reacted to the news, with many noting the irony given Cyndi Lauper's stance on gun control. Others mocked the family for dad coming to the rescue, again.

"What else do you expect from a left-wing parent? I'm sure he'll have more run-ins with the law," one X user wrote.

The young Lauper is expected back in court later this week.
