Country music star Darius Rucker arrested after police find drugs during traffic stop

Country music star Darius Rucker found himself arrested after a traffic stop led to police finding drugs in his possession on Thursday.

Rucker was stopped by the Williamson County Sheriff who arrested him for two counts of simple possession or casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of violation of Tennessee vehicle registration law.

All three charges Rucker is facing are considered misdemeanors but nonetheless this isn't a great situation for the performer.

Presumably it was an expired registration that led to the initial traffic stop and then police must have been alerted to something suspicious leading to the search. However, the exact details of the incident aren't known and likely won't be for a while.

The Williamson County Sheriff's office declined to comment on what drugs Rucker had in his possession or what led to his arrest. However, it is safe to assume that his offenses were of a minor nature considering that the charges are so mild.

Bad luck for Rucker

Mark Puryear, Rucker's attorney stated that his client was "fully cooperating with authorities related to the misdemeanor charges."

However, not all the news is good as Rucker, who is best known as The Hootie & Blowfish frontman, was removed from the Grand Ole Opry Friday night lineup.

Rucker was released on a $10,500 bond on Thursday.

Rucker's arrest and removal from the Grand Ole Opry's lineup earned him some serious scorn from his ex-girlfriend, comedian Kate Quigley.

Quigley took a shot at Rucker on X writing, "Yes. I've heard. All I can say is Karma."

She later posted a picture to X captioned with "Mood when u hear your d-bag ex got arrested. #Karma." However, she later deleted that post but there was little indication for what caused her to take down her post dunking on her ex.

Not much is known about the bad blood between Rucker and Quigley but Quigley suffered an accidental overdose just before the couple split up.

It's possible that Rucker may have a serious problem with controlled substances and that could have contributed to the couple's falling out. Of course, fans will have to wait until more details come out before we get the full story.
