Convicted murderer attacks Ron DeSantis moments before his execution

The Daily Wire reports that a convicted murderer used his final moments on earth to attack Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

The convicted murderer is Donald Dillbeck. Dillbeck was executed on Thursday.

The sentence stems from a crime that Dillbeck committed in 1990. At the time, Dillbeck was under a work-release program in Gadsden County, where he was serving a life sentence for murdering a sheriff's deputy.

Dillbeck escaped from the program, and while he was on the run, he came across Fay Lamb Vann, who was sitting in her car outside of a store waiting for her family to return from shopping.

A physical confrontation ensued. Vann fought back. But, Dillbeck stabbed her and slit her throat, resulting in her death.

As a result of this second murder, Dillbeck was convicted and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out on Thursday.

Just before being executed, Dillbeck was given the opportunity to say his last words. And, Dillbeck decided to use his last words to attack Gov. DeSantis.

Dillbeck said:

I know I hurt people when I was young. I really messed up. But, I know Ron DeSantis has done a lot worse. He’s taken a lot from a lot of people. I speak for all men, women, and children. He’s put his foot on our necks. Ron DeSantis and other people like him can suck our d****.

Surprisingly, some appeared to agree with Dillbeck's statement, including the far-left HuffPost. The outlet put out an article, titled, "Florida Executes Man Used As ‘Political Pawn’ By Ron DeSantis."

In the article, author Jessica Schulberg appears to come to the defense of the convicted murderer. She writes, "Florida on Thursday executed 59-year-old Donald Dillbeck, who was sentenced to death 32 years ago by a non-unanimous jury under a death penalty statute that has since been found unconstitutional."

Christina Pushaw, DeSantis's rapid response director, responded to the article by pointing out the glaringly-obvious problem with the HuffPost's take.

"Perspective... this monster killed a police officer, went to jail, escaped, stabbed this mom to death in a parking lot at the Tallahassee Mall at random, and HuffPost thinks HE is the victim," Pushaw wrote.

Many others joined in the criticism.

In contrast to Dillbeck and the HuffPost, the victims praised DeSantis for putting Dillbeck to death. They wrote:

11,932 days ago Donald Dillbeck brutally killed our mother. We were robbed of years of memories with her and it has been very painful ever since. However, the execution has given us some closure. We are grateful to Governor DeSantis for carrying out the sentence.
