Controversial Democrat to challenge Pelosi in upcoming primary race

Ever since Pelosi stepped down from her leadership role, many, including this writer, believe that she is still calling the shots.

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is still the one the media goes to, and she seems to be the one wielding the power.

That may soon end, however, as this new far-left move in the Democrat Party has brought about a challenge to Pelosi in her upcoming primary race.

Calling the Shots

It was not long after Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) was elected to leadership that he sidestepped the question as to whether Pelosi was calling the shots or not.

At the time, he stated, “Speaker Emerita Pelosi has been incredibly respectful of the entire leadership team.”

Jeffries was asked about Pelosi still calling the shots after an unnamed Democrat House member blistered Pelosi, stating, “She needs to take a seat,” and that “making scattershot comments is not just unhelpful, it’s damaging.”

Even now, however, Pelosi seems to be the one getting all the headlines.

Snapped

A reporter recently asked Pelosi about not accepting the National Guard troops that Donald Trump allegedly offered for crowd control on January 6.

Pelosi immediately snapped at the reporter, stating, "Shut up! I did not refuse the National Guard! The president didn’t send it.”

The truth is a bit muddled on this, as the transcript from a meeting about the event proved that Trump offered the Guard, or anything else they thought they may need to provide security, but Pelosi was not at that meeting.

Even so, security fell under the purview of Pelosi, so she could have asked for more security, and based on the reports I have seen leading up to that event, she should have asked for more help. I still believe Pelosi wanted the event to turn ugly, but she never anticipated it would get as ugly as it has.

Time to Go

State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) is part of this new wave of far-left Democrats who are gaining traction, and he is now getting ready to run against Pelosi in the upcoming primary race, if she decides to run again.

No official announcement has been made, and Weiner has previously stated that he would wait for Pelosi to retire before running for her seat

Pelosi, 85, has not yet announced her plans for 2026, but Weiner is getting antsy and wants to get the ball rolling, so there are reports that his campaign announcement is imminent.

Saikat Chakrabarti, a wealthy former tech executive who previously worked as chief of staff to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), is also expected to announce that he is running, regardless of the position by Pelosi. Both of these men are going to have some big donors behind them, so it would be a daunting task for Pelosi, so much so that many experts believe she may just pack it in.
