It turns out that Donald Trump is upsetting more than just liberals and Democrats.
There are some old-school establishment conservatives out there making up the anti-Trump niche of the GOP.
One of them is Judge Mark Wolf, who just resigned his position after ranting about the bad orange man.
If we go back and look at some of the judges who have been assigned to Trump cases, I don’t think it gets any worse than Judge Arthur Engoron.
He had issued a partial summary judgment in the civil suit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James before Trump’s attorneys ever said a word in the trial.
He was extremely confrontational with Trump’s attorneys and wound up hammering Trump for hundreds of millions of dollars.
Trump continues to fight that verdict.
Another judge who stacked the deck against Trump was Judge James Boasberg.
Boasberg took a case where he clearly did not have jurisdiction, and he was eventually called out for it by the Supreme Court.
Not only that, even after the justices ruled that he did not have jurisdiction, he continued to issue judgments in the case, including saying that there was possible obstruction by members of the Trump administration.
If there was ever a judge who needed to go before a review panel, he is it.
This now brings us to Judge Mark Wolf, who was appointed by Ronald Reagan, and who just decided to step down from a lifetime appointment because he claims he is being handcuffed by this administration.
He wrote, "My reason is simple: I no longer can bear to be restrained by what judges can say publicly or do outside the courtroom. President Donald Trump is using the law for partisan purposes, targeting his adversaries while sparing his friends and donors from investigation, prosecution, and possible punishment.”
Wolf continued, "This is contrary to everything that I have stood for in my more than 50 years in the Department of Justice and on the bench. The White House’s assault on the rule of law is so deeply disturbing to me that I feel compelled to speak out. Silence, for me, is now intolerable."
Judges are hardly being constrained, but we are seeing many of their decisions being overturned on appeal because they are making rulings based on ideology rather than the law. I say good riddance, as he was clearly another activist judge who can now be replaced by a Trump-nominated judge.
