Liberal Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been caught and called out for shipping a group of migrants bused to Illinois from Texas to a nearby suburban town governed by a Republican mayor, as Fox News reports.
The situation stems from an initiative launched by Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in which migrants apprehended at the southern border are being sent via bus to a number of large, Democrat-led urban centers, with self-declared "sanctuary city" Chicago among them.
As she struggled to confront the reality of the true and onerous burdens illegal immigrants place on the locales in which they arrive, Lightfoot hypocritically deflected by deriding Abbott as a racist and a "man without any morals, humanity or shame," for refusing to force the citizens of his state to foot the bill, as the Daily Wire noted earlier this month.
Castigating Abbott for sending migrants northward, Lightfoot added, "[w]e are Chicago, a welcoming city, a city where we live our values every single day – a city where immigrants and refugees have been a part of the fabric of the city from our earliest days."
However, Lightfoot's reported decision to send 64 recently-arrived migrants to a Hampton Inn in the Chicago suburb of Burr Ridge seems to tell a different story.
Republican Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso explained to Fox News that Lightfoot's actions in that regard amount to the disgraceful use of migrant groups as political pawns and that Illinois Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker is equally to blame.
"As is my understanding, this hotel, about a year ago, when refugees came in from Afghanistan, apparently accepted several either through faith-based or charitable organizations, but now the state assumes they can just send migrants...this isn't about them, the migrants is fine, they're being used as political pawns by the governor and mayor," Grasso opined.
Further blasting the aforementioned liberal leaders, Grasso continued, "We're more than happy for people to find freedom, it is hypocrisy by the mayor of Chicago to complain about the governor of Texas...but there must be vacant hotel rooms in Chicago. ... Why are they sending them out to the Republican suburbs? You have to wonder."
"The border situation on the southern border is a totally different situation than Afghan refugees, Grasso stated, adding, "It's total arrogance for [t]he state to assume they can send migrants to the suburbs around Chicago." Though, as anyone who has observed leftist tactics in recent years understands, it is also not surprising, given that Democrats rarely believe they should be subject to the negative fallout from the destructive policies they champion.
