The situation at the southern U.S. border was already beyond dangerous, but recent developments have made that reality shockingly more clear.
According to Breitbart, Customs and Border Patrol agents are on high alert after discovering 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the southern border.
Discovery of the explosives -- the type usually found in Middle Eastern battlefields -- came after federal authorities from both Mexico and the United States responded to a reported gun battle.
Breitbart noted:
The incident appears to have been a clash in Sonora near a gap in the border fence that has become a popular smuggling point, Fox Business first reported. Just north of that location, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a gunman who was carrying an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, a handgun, and ammunition.
The area, near the Arizona-Mexico border, is a known hot spot for cartel clashes.
It was unclear if the bad guys involved in the gun battle were battling rival cartel members or federal authorities, according to the report.

The Mexican military reportedly discovered the IEDs on the Mexico side of the border first.
Notably, news of the potential IED threat was only made public after someone within the agency leaked a memo regarding the incident.
Breitbart noted:
As a result of the clash, U.S. federal authorities issued an alert to U.S. Border Patrol agents and CBP officers, warning them to be vigilant and on the lookout for more explosive devices. According to Fox Business, that alert was sent internally within CBP on December 13 and leaked to them by someone within the agency.
News of the discovery of the dangerous explosive devices generated a massive reaction across social media, with many demanding the Biden administration take action.

"If they are coming in for a better life as they tell us. Why would they be packing IED’s? Must be all those women & children coming in carrying them, not the millions of military aged men," one X user wrote.
Reports emerged over the weekend that border negotiators in the White House and the Senate are constructing a "framework" for how to tackle the chaos at the border. But unless its extreme and swift, it probably won't matter.
