Casey Anthony's parents take lie detector test over death of grandaughter

George and Cindy Anthony, parents of Casey Anthony, the Florida woman known as "the most hated mom in America," are seeking to clear their name.

The couple has agreed to take a polygraph test for a two-hour special titled "Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test," airing on A&E and Lifetime.

The investigation

The special delves into the 2008 death of their granddaughter, Caylee Anthony, a case that gained international attention and caused a deep family divide. In 2011, Casey, aged 37, was charged and later acquitted of Caylee's death.

"When I met them, they were soon separated, and I tested George first," Olivo told Fox News Digital. "Nothing really stood out to me. They seem like, on the surface, just a regular couple that have been together for a very long time."

The polygraph test, administered by retired FBI Special Agent George Olivo, explored lingering questions about George's alleged involvement in Caylee's death. The results, kept confidential until the special's airing on January 4, feature George and Cindy reacting to each other's responses.

The test

Olivo, who conducted the test, emphasized the Anthonys' genuine motives for participating, stating that facing accusations from their daughter, Casey, pushed them to seek public clarification.

Despite potential skepticism, Olivo highlighted the Anthonys' predicament, noting that remaining silent or speaking out would both face criticism.

In 2022, Casey Anthony participated in a Peacock docuseries, "Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies," where she accused her father of involvement in Caylee's death. While Casey stopped short of alleging intentional killing, she claimed George played a role.

Past investigations

The polygraph test is expected to address questions about George's alleged misconduct and any connection to Caylee's death.

Olivo, stressing the test's accuracy when conducted correctly, highlighted its role in providing closure for the family.

The Casey Anthony case began in 2008 when Caylee was reported missing, leading to a six-month search that ended with the discovery of Caylee's skeletal remains.

Casey was charged with murder, leading to a high-profile trial where she was acquitted of major charges but convicted of lying to the police.

George and Cindy Anthony's decision to undergo a polygraph test aims to address lingering doubts and accusations surrounding their family. Olivo hopes the process contributes to some form of closure for the deeply affected family following years of speculation.
