Car crashes into President Biden's motorcade vehicle in Delaware

A vehicle crashed into an SUV that was part of President Joe Biden's motorcade outside of his Delaware campaign headquarters.

The Sunday night incident occurred as the president was exiting the building, leading to guns drawn by nearby agents in response.

The incident

"The sedan then tried to continue into a closed-off intersection, before Secret Service personnel surrounded the vehicle with weapons drawn and instructed the driver to put his hands up," Fox News reported.

"President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden had just finished a meal with members of his re-election team at the time of the incident, according to the White House pool report," it added.

The investigation

"There was no protective interest associated with this event and the president's motorcade departed without incident," Secret Service spokesperson Special Agent Steve Kopek said in a statement, according to the BBC.

"The Wilmington Police Department said it was investigating the collision, which did not result in any injuries," it continued.

Following the incident, the president was also quickly placed in his vehicle where First Lady Jill Biden was already inside.

The event

"The collision took place outside Biden’s campaign headquarters in downtown Wilmington. Joe and Jill Biden were holding a holiday dinner for staffers and volunteers working for the president’s 2024 re-election campaign," the Guardian reported.

"Jill Biden had stepped out shortly before the crash, wishing the crowd gathered outside “happy holidays” before stepping into a vehicle," it noted.

The president and first lady are both safe though the president expressed surprise at the situation following a loud bang as the crash occurred.

Biden was being asked a question by a reporter about his poll numbers just before the crash as he was guarded by Secret Service agents.

The party will now be remembered for the accident outside of the location, though it appears to be an accident and all involved were safe following the situation.
