Tragedy struck the music world as Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Brett James perished in a devastating small plane crash in North Carolina on Thursday, September 18, Breitbart reported.

The crash claimed the lives of three individuals, including James, who was 57 at the time, and is currently under investigation by both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Brett James was a towering figure in the music industry, particularly in country and pop genres. His career took off after signing a record deal in 1992. He released his self-titled debut album three years later in 1995.

Remembering a Country Music Icon

Over the decades, James built a remarkable legacy as a songwriter. He wrote or co-wrote hundreds of tracks for some of the biggest names in music.

Among his most celebrated works are Carrie Underwood's powerful ballad "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and Kenny Chesney’s chart-topping "When the Sun Goes Down." These songs became anthems for fans across the globe.

James also penned hits for a wide array of artists, showcasing his versatility. His catalog includes songs for Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, and Taylor Swift, with tracks like Swift’s early hit "A Perfectly Good Heart."

Songwriting Genius Behind Major Hits

His contributions extended to other stars like Billy Ray Cyrus and Brantley Gilbert, with songs such as Gilbert’s "Bottoms Up." James also crafted Rascal Flatts’ upbeat "Summer Nights," a fan favorite.

Recognition for his talent came in many forms during his career. In 2020, he earned a prestigious spot in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Additionally, ASCAP honored him as a two-time Country Songwriter of the Year. This accolade highlighted his consistent excellence in the field.
