Former FBI Director James Comey and President Donald Trump have a long and ugly past.
Since he was fired by Trump, Comey has clearly had an axe to grind, and if we are to believe new FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, he may have been keeping some evidence hidden.
When Comey was the agency's director, a slew of FISA violations took place under his watch.
Ultimately, this comes back on Comey, because it was his signature on the documents, and it was up to him as director to ensure procedures were in place and being followed.
When it was later realized that abuses were a regular occurrence, Comey responded, "I was wrong. I was overconfident as director in our procedures."
I would have asked Comey exactly what he was doing as FBI director to ensure those policies were being followed, or if he had ever audited them during his tenure as director.
During the 2024 campaign cycle, Comey thought he was funny by showing a shell on the beach that was promoting Kamala Harris for president.
You see, Comey thinks he is the smartest man in the room, so he assumes we believe that he just came about that shell rather than making it himself, and he just tried to pull off the same nonsense by posting shells on the beach in the formation of “86 47.”
“86” is generally restaurant lingo to take something off the menu, but it also means to end something or kill someone, like “We need to 86 Trump.” Comey claimed he had no idea that number referenced violence, and he ended up taking down the post.
Because this was a perceived threat against the president, the FBI and Secret Service had to investigate it, but Bongino and Director Kash Patel both scolded Comey for the agency having to waste significant manpower hours due to the copycats that followed his little stunt.
Bongino was appointed as FBI deputy director by Trump, and he just revealed that after taking his post, agents showed him a room where Comey was apparently trying to bury evidence.
When asked if the room and its contents were intentionally concealed, Bongino responded, “I wouldn’t call it hidden -- but hidden from us, at least, and not mentioned to us. Then we found stuff in there, and a lot of it’s from the Comey era. We’re working our damnedest right now to declassify it."
He went on, “And just so you know—I get the public. I totally understand people saying, ‘Well, do it now.’ The process is, not all the information is ours to declassify — some is other intelligence agencies. We literally can’t do it.”
I am really hoping they find something exculpatory in there that the FBI buried when Comey was in office because I have always believed he should have been brought up on charges for the FISA abuses. Instead, we have to see that smirk on his face when the media calls him in to talk smack about Trump. I want justice!
