Pam Bondi leads massive D.C. crime sweep with nearly 200 arrests

Federal agents are storming Washington, D.C., to restore order. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a sweeping crackdown that’s netted 189 arrests, signaling the Trump administration’s no-nonsense approach to crime in the nation’s capital. It’s a bold move that’s got progressives clutching their pearls.

Fox News reported that on Monday, President Donald Trump federalized the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, leveraging the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to take control for 30 days.

This operation, involving hundreds of National Guard members and federal agencies like the FBI and DEA, targets serious offenders. The left’s sanctuary city dreams are taking a hit.

The arrests include two homicide suspects, 17 suspected drug traffickers, 39 suspected illegal gun offenders, and two sexual predators.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement alone nabbed 75 individuals, bolstering MPD patrols and manning city checkpoints. That’s what enforcement looks like when you ditch the woke playbook.

Crackdown Intensifies Across Capital

By Wednesday night, August 13, 2025, the operation was in full swing, with 50 arrests, including 29 unauthorized migrants. Bondi’s team isn’t playing favorites—lawbreakers of all stripes are feeling the heat. The message is clear: D.C. won’t be a haven for chaos.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, Bondi dropped a bombshell, rescinding D.C.’s sanctuary city protections. Her order, “Restoring Safety and Security to the District of Columbia,” unleashed the MPD to cooperate fully with federal immigration authorities. Sanctuary policies just got a reality check.

That same day, Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator Terry Cole stepped in as emergency police commissioner, replacing Metro Police Chief Pamela Smith.

Smith’s reluctance to work with federal immigration officials had drawn fire, and Bondi’s move signals a shift toward accountability. No more coddling criminals under the guise of compassion.

The operation’s scope is staggering, with the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Capitol Police, and National Guard flooding the city. They’re not just patrolling—they’re making arrests and restoring order. Progressive cries of “overreach” ring hollow when you consider the results.

On August 14, 2025, MPD detained a person after a public altercation, showing the operation’s focus on immediate action.

Meanwhile, the FBI, ATF, and U.S. Park Police assisted a woman allegedly affected by synthetic marijuana, proving law enforcement can protect without pandering. Empathy doesn’t mean enabling.

In another incident that day, the FBI detained someone for driving without a license. It’s a small but telling example of how lax enforcement has let minor violations fester. Bondi’s crackdown is a wake-up call for a city long plagued by soft-on-crime policies.

Bondi’s Vision for Safety

“This is what happens when you enforce the law,” Bondi declared, and she’s not wrong. Her operation is a direct rebuke to the progressive agenda that’s turned D.C. into a crime magnet. Results speak louder than woke rhetoric.

“We’re taking back our Nation’s Capital!” Bondi added, a rallying cry for those tired of seeing D.C. spiral. Critics will call it heavy-handed, but when you’re facing homicide suspects and drug traffickers, half-measures don’t cut it. The capital deserves better.

The sweep’s early success—189 arrests and counting—shows what happens when leadership prioritizes safety over ideology. Bondi’s order dismantles barriers that shielded lawbreakers, letting police do their jobs. It’s a refreshing change from the usual bureaucratic hand-wringing.

The involvement of multiple federal agencies underscores the operation’s seriousness. From ICE’s 75 arrests to the National Guard’s presence, this is a coordinated effort to clean house. D.C.’s days as a progressive petri dish are numbered.

Replacing Chief Smith with Terry Cole was a masterstroke. Smith’s resistance to federal cooperation symbolized the sanctuary city mindset that Bondi’s dismantling. A commissioner who enforces the law without apology is exactly what D.C. needs.

Bondi’s vision to “make D.C. Beautiful & Safe Again” is more than a slogan—it’s a promise being fulfilled. While critics decry the loss of sanctuary status, residents tired of crime are breathing a sigh of relief. Law and order are back, and D.C. is better for it.
