Bill Gates accuses Elon Musk of killing poor children with DOGE cuts

Elon Musk's recent involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency's budgetary actions has drawn sharp criticism from fellow billionaire Bill Gates.

Breitbart reported that Gates has claimed that Musk's influence and decisions could result in severe consequences for the global health sector, with potential risks to the world's underprivileged children.

The crux of Gates' argument is that Musk's leadership in the Department of Government Efficiency has triggered significant funding reductions. These cuts, Gates argues, could lead to deleterious effects on the health and well-being of vulnerable children worldwide.

In March, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a significant reshaping of USAID's projects. According to Rubio, a massive 83% of the agency’s programs have been phased out.

The programs were dismissed because the vast majority of their operations did not align with core American interests. He elaborated that "5,200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars" outside of U.S. priorities, exacerbating international tensions.

Concerns About Future Child Deaths

Gates has expressed grave concerns over the longer-term impact of these funding adjustments. He suggests the global health progress seen over the past few decades might face reversals.

Gates noted that the past 25 years have been "miraculous" for decreasing child mortality, but feels that funding cuts could increase child deaths over the next few years significantly.

Gates fears that the number of child fatalities annually could rise from five million to over six million if these changes are not reversed. Previously, progress had been made to reduce mortality rates, but Gates has warned that these advances may now be undone.

Nevertheless, he maintains hope that a broader commitment to innovation and philanthropy will eventually counterbalance the setbacks brought on by current fiscal policies.

In response, Elon Musk publicly responded to Gates with a pointed critique. Musk dismissed Gates' claims as false, calling him a "huge liar." This statement underscores the depth of the intense debate between the two, indicating an ongoing and possibly escalating contention.

Despite criticisms and apparent setbacks, Gates is pressing forward with his philanthropic mission. He reiterated his commitment to contribute $200 billion through his charity foundation by 2045. Gates firmly believes that the pipeline of innovation in areas like health could offer substantial returns in addressing current global issues.

Further highlighting this commitment, Gates remains optimistic about the role of philanthropy and governmental cooperation. He anticipates that, in the long term, governments will renew their focus on the welfare of children, marking a turning point forward.

During a recent meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Gates shared thoughts with former President Donald Trump over a three-hour dinner.

Gates recounted being impressed by Trump's dedication to advancing innovation specifically targeted towards vaccines and HIV treatment. This dinner represents potential new alliances or discussions Gates may pursue to advance his philanthropic objectives.

Marco Rubio's Role And Decision

With the cancellation of numerous USAID programs, Marco Rubio's role was pivotal in reshaping foreign aid priorities. Rubio justified his decision based on national interests, stating that many programs, apart from not serving the U.S. agenda, harmed these interests.

This realignment indicates a fundamental shift in the U.S. approach to international aid, echoing a philosophy of prioritizing domestic objectives.

While Gates sees long-term hope through innovation and philanthropy, Rubio maintains that the focus should remain on strengthening core national strategies. Regardless, the implications of these cuts pose significant questions about America's humanitarian engagement moving forward.
