Biden to send top officials to Mexico to discuss migrant crisis

Suddenly, as the 2024 election nears and people begin paying attention, the Biden administration is seemingly worried about the migrant crisis at the southern U.S. border.

The White House announced Thursday that President Joe Biden, who seemingly can't be bothered with such problems, is dispatching a team from his administration to Mexico to begin talks to address the mass migration problem.

The team, according to The Hill, includes "Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and White House homeland security adviser Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall."

Notably, the officials will meet with Mexico's president.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby announced that the U.S. delegation will meet with the Mexican president and his team "to discuss further actions that can be taken together to address current border challenges."

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reportedly spoke to Biden via phone earlier in the week, and the two essentially agreed that more action needs to be taken.

Kirby noted the two leaders talked in "broad terms about what can be done inside Mexico to slow that process down, and there are some things like checkpoints on rail lines and on highways and that kind of thing."

Yet, the White House still refers to the absolute chaos at the southern border as a mere "challenge."

Impressively, in its report on the upcoming meeting, The Hill referred to the situation at the southern border as a "crisis."

America’s southern border is facing a crisis, with an estimated 10,000 people making a dangerous crossing illegally into the U.S. every day.

Kirby noted that the U.S. delegation will talk about further action that can be taken, but failed to offer specifics.

"Their visit will really be about getting at the migratory flows and talking to President López Obrador and his team about what more we can do together," Kirby said.

Kirby also boasted about the "terrific cooperation" between the two countries on the issue, though that's a hard one for anybody with eyeballs to swallow, given out absolutely disastrous the situation has become.

"There’s been terrific cooperation. We’re proud of that. And I think it can be expanded given the record levels of migrants that we’re seeing come across," Kirby said.

Many believe the White House is only showing basic interest in the issue because of the upcoming election, so that Biden and Democrats can say they've taken action on it. They're probably right.
