“I think the situation is quite unfortunate, but I do believe it is in the best interest for Senator Menendez to resign in this moment. As you mentioned, consistency matters. It shouldn’t matter whether it is a Republican or Democrat,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“The details in this indictment are extremely serious, they involve the nature of not just his, but all of our seats in Congress, and while, as a Latina, there are absolutely ways in which there is systemic bias, but I think what is here in this indictment is quite clear and I believe it is in the best interest to maintain the integrity of the seat," she added.

‘NJ Deserves Better’: Dem Rep Says He’ll Challenge Sen. Bob Menendez In 2024 After Indictment, Calls For Resignationhttps://t.co/0winyRDWuQ

"Democratic New Jersey Rep. Andy Kim said Saturday that he will challenge Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez in 2024 after calls for his resignation following his indictment," the DC Enquirer reported.
“After calls to resign, Senator Menendez said ‘I am not going anywhere.’ As a result, I feel compelled to run against him. Not something I expected to do, but NJ deserves better. We cannot jeopardize the Senate or compromise our integrity. Please join me,” Kim wrote.
Menendez was indicted Friday on three counts of bribery, fraud and extortion in the Southern District of New York.
Several Democrats have now called for the senator to step down, but it appears Menendez plans to fight against his charges with no plans to leave the Senate.
Ocasio-Cortez is among those calling for his resignation as Democrats could face additional concerns in the upcoming election over the situation with Menendez.
