Anti-Trump outlets run false reports about Trump calling Melania 'Mercedes'

Former President Donald Trump's critics will find any excuse to mock the former president, especially as they struggle to protect the elderly, often-confused President Joe Biden.

The anti-Trump crowd was especially giddy over the weekend after reports surfaced that the former president called his wife, Melania Trump, "Mercedes" instead.

However, even left-leaning Newsweek admitted that while Trump said the name "Mercedes" during his CPAC speech, it wasn't a mistake in referring to the former first lady.

The U.K. Independent ran the false story, and as of this publication, it still hasn't been corrected.

What did he say?

The false report that the former president referred to Melania as "Mercedes" came about after his speech Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Donald Trump was speaking about the former first lady during the speech and then slipped in the other name.

"Well look, my wife, our great first lady, she was great... people love her," Trump said. "Oh look at that, wow. Mercedes, that's pretty good!"

The anti-Trumpers on social media deceptively clipped that part of his speech and immediately diagnosed the former president with "cognitive decline," obviously wanting so badly to distract from President Biden's actual and obvious cognitive decline.

Any reasonable and honest person could have easily determined that Trump was referring to Mercedes Schlapp, his former White House director of strategic communications. Schlapp took to X to comment on the asinine, false story, calling it "fake news at its finest."

Some were honest

Even political commentator Keith Olbermann, a staunch critic of the former president, immediately dispelled the false story while slipping in several jabs at Trump.

"Trump spews out astonishing evidence of his dementia, brain trauma, and possible substance abuse on an hourly basis. There is NO reason to add to this list easily disproven nonsense. He did NOT call his wife 'Mercedes' at CPAC," Olbermann said. "He's unmistakably referring to Mercedes Schlapp."

A spokesperson for the Trump campaign commented on the story, telling Newsweek, "The crazy leftists on X continue to suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome and that's why they lie about everything."

It's astonishing how those same crazy leftists continually ignore President Biden's very serious and concerning gaffes, which have increased in frequency as his cognitive functions deteriorate before our eyes.
