Anti-Israel Protesters March Ahead of DNC in Chicago

Anti-Israel protesters marched through the streets of Chicago on August 19, displaying a banner with the words “Killer Kamala” as they prepared for the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Breitbart reported that the demonstration, organized by a coalition of nearly 270 groups, aimed to criticize U.S. aid to Israel and highlight Palestinian rights.

The protest was timed just before the DNC, where Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to accept the Democratic Party's nomination in a race against former President Donald Trump.

The timing of the protest was intended to draw attention to what the protesters see as the U.S. government’s complicity in actions against Palestinians.

Coalition of 270 Organizations Leads Protest

The coalition behind the protest includes nearly 270 organizations from across the United States. These groups have united under a shared goal: to stop what they refer to as genocide, end U.S. aid to Israel, and free Palestine.

The march was set to begin at noon from Union Park, with organizers expecting a significant turnout. Hatem Abudayyeh, a spokesperson for the coalition, emphasized the scale of the protest, stating, "Tens of thousands [of people] will be out on the streets starting tomorrow, August 19 at noon, right here at Union Park."

The protest is not just about numbers; it’s about sending a clear message to the U.S. government. Protesters are demanding an end to what they view as the genocide of Palestinians, calling for the cessation of U.S. aid to Israel.

The coalition believes that U.S. financial support contributes to the ongoing conflict and suffering in the region.

As the march progresses, the protesters will focus on securing their route through Chicago's streets. Abudayyeh highlighted this determination, saying, "Up until 2 p.m. when we step off, we’re going to be fighting for our rights and we’re going to be fighting for that route."

Protesters Display Banner Targeting Kamala Harris

Among the various banners and signs displayed during the protest, one stood out: a banner reading “Killer Kamala.” This direct reference to Vice President Kamala Harris underscores the protesters' discontent with her role in the current administration, particularly regarding U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.

The protesters' choice to target Harris reflects broader dissatisfaction within some progressive circles about the Democratic Party's stance on Israel and Palestine. This discontent was further echoed during speeches at the event.

During the protest, a woman’s speech, broadcasted by Breitbart News, captured the frustration of many participants. "My issue with the Democratic Party is they tell us lies," she said. Her words resonated with others in the crowd who feel that the party has consistently failed to deliver on its promises.

She continued, "Every time, they lie to us. So why should we come out and vote for these Democrats? They’re not doing nothing for us. And I’m sick and tired of them lying to us. Every single time."

The protest, set to begin at noon, is expected to draw tens of thousands of participants, as stated by Abudayyeh. This large turnout is indicative of the strong feelings many have about U.S. policy towards Israel, and the desire for change in how the U.S. engages with the Palestinian issue.

The coalition’s spokesperson emphasized that the protest is not just about making a statement; it's about taking action. The marchers are determined to ensure their message is heard loud and clear, both by the Democratic Party and the broader public.

Protest Highlights Tensions Ahead of DNC

The protest takes place against the backdrop of the upcoming Democratic National Convention, where Vice President Harris will accept the nomination. The DNC is a critical moment for the Democratic Party, as it sets the stage for the upcoming election.

However, the protest serves as a reminder that there are significant divisions within the party, particularly concerning foreign policy. The display of the "Killer Kamala" banner and the strong rhetoric from speakers at the protest indicate that these divisions could play a role in the upcoming election.

As the marchers prepare to set off from Union Park, there are concerns about the route and security. The coalition has made it clear that they are prepared to fight for their right to march, despite any potential obstacles.

The march route has been a point of contention, with organizers determined to make their voices heard in the heart of Chicago. The coalition’s spokesperson, Abudayyeh, emphasized the importance of this, stating, "We’re going to be fighting for that route."
