AG Jeff Landry pulls of impressive win in Louisiana gubernatorial race

In an election night that stunned the entire state of Louisiana -- and the Republican Party in general -- former Attorney General Jeff Landry crushed his opponents to win the governor's mansion.

According to Breitbart, Landry defeated his Democratic opponent, Shawn Wilson, with 52% of the vote, which prevented a runoff in what the state calls a "jungle primary."

Breitbart explained:

In Louisiana, governor elections are first open to a full field of all candidates from either party in what is known as a jungle primary—and then the two top vote-getters generally advance to a runoff a month later. But if a candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, as Landry did here, they can win outright on jungle primary day.

Louisiana voters were so hungry for a strong Republican governor that they made history by voting Landry in and avoiding a runoff.

Landry was seen as a frontrunner with a strong chance of beating Wilson later in a runoff, but almost nobody predicted that he would steal the show on the first vote.

Landry released a short and meaningful statement in the wake of his massive victory.

"Thankful beyond belief. I’m ready to get to work for Louisiana!" he wrote.

Congratulations poured in from across the Republican Party, with many high-profile Republicans praising him for his monumental victory -- a victory that will likely keep Democratic candidates around the country up at night.

"Congratulations to Louisiana Governor-Elect Jeff Landry. Louisiana’s future CAN be better than our present and our past, and I look forward to working with our new governor to make that happen," Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy (R) wrote.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote, "Congrats to @JeffLandry and Louisiana. AG Landry showed how conservatives win big when we focus on the issues voters care about."

Landry, well-liked across the Republican Party, will undoubtedly do great things for his state, and many are excited to watch him get to work.
