Political violence in this country is hitting unprecedented levels.
Two assassination attempts have been leveled against Donald Trump, more plots have been thwarted, Charlie Kirk was murdered in broad daylight, judges have been attacked, and more.
Now, would-be political vigilantes are apparently going after U.S. Attorneys.
We all remember the brutal attack initiated against a DOGE staffer during a carjacking in D.C.
The staffer was brutally beaten during the incident, and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro vowed to secure justice.
At the time, she stated, “We are leaving no stone unturned to bring to justice criminals who perpetrate random, unprovoked, and brutal attacks on people who are unlucky enough to be in their path."
Pirro went on, “This is about the safety of individuals in this community – make no mistake, the rights of victims are paramount, and we will pursue justice, swiftly and vigorously on their behalf.”
Earlier this month, a report was released on CBS News showing that this violent trend was moving into local political offices across the country.
The GOP Chair of the Upper Marian Republican Committee in Pennsylvania, Matthew McCaffery, was swatted, stating, "If it could happen to me, small-town Matt McCaffery, it can happen to you.”
These swatting events are done by people hoping to have the police unwittingly do their dirty work for them. Abby André, executive director and cofounder of the Impact Project, explained, "We're seeing not only an increase in volume, but also an expansion in who's being targeted. A decade ago, threats were concentrated at the federal level. Today, school board members, county clerks, and even mail carriers face similar dangers."
The scary aspect of this to me is the fact that these are either people who were able to find the addresses of the officials they wish to target, or, even worse, they are people who knew the targeted officials and started to play this sick game.
Alina Habba served as a personal attorney for Donald Trump before he was reelected to the White House, and now she serves as a U.S. Attorney.
Reports broke Thursday afternoon that her office had been attacked, with the assailant vandalizing the premises, then fleeing the scene. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated, "Thankfully, Alina is ok. Any violence or threats of violence against any federal officer will not be tolerated. Period. This is unfortunately becoming a trend as radicals continue to attack law enforcement agents around the country."
Bondi continued, "We will find this person, and the individual will be brought to justice. Our federal prosecutors, agents, and law-enforcement partners put their lives on the line every day to protect the American people, and this Department will use every legal tool available to ensure their safety and hold violent offenders fully accountable.”
This is all a product of the unending rhetoric being tossed around by both sides. The silly name-calling, likening people to Nazis, calling them Hitler, etc., has all served to set off mentally disturbed people who then feel like they can save the world by taking political opponents out. One would think that with attacks taking place against both sides of the political spectrum, the rhetoric would stop, but that clearly is not going to happen. Even so, everyone continues to act surprised when these acts of violence take place. The irony of it all is that the very people creating this environment are the ones with all the outrage when the incidents occur.
