Trump's policies transform border crisis

President Donald Trump has turned chaos into calm at the U.S. southern border. In June 2025, Border Patrol recorded a mere 6,000 inadmissible aliens at southern ports of entry, a stark contrast to the pandemonium of prior years.

This isn’t just a statistic—it’s a policy triumph that demands attention, Simon Hankinson wrote for Fox News on Monday.

Illegal border crossings plummeted to a historic low of 25,243 inadmissible aliens across all U.S. borders in June 2025. This figure marks the lowest monthly total ever recorded, a feat credited to Trump’s ironclad enforcement measures. From ending catch-and-release to resuming border wall construction, his administration has rewritten the rulebook.

Under President Joe Biden, the border was a sieve. In December 2023, a staggering 251,178 inadmissible aliens were encountered, the worst month in U.S. history. Over 85% of those caught—roughly 213,500—were released into the country, a number larger than Tallahassee, Florida’s population.

Biden’s Border Legacy Unravels

Biden’s policies fueled a free-for-all. More than half a million aliens skipped their removal hearings during his term, turning immigration courts into a revolving door. ICE was instructed to look the other way, letting chaos fester unchecked.

Contrast that with Trump’s approach: detention, not discretion. Aliens entering without permission now face mandatory detention pending their immigration process, as the law demands. Routine bond hearings for release are a thing of the past, ensuring accountability.

Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is a game-changer. It allocates $170 billion to hire 300 more immigration judges, boost DHS staff, and expand detention capacity to 100,000. This isn’t just funding—it’s a commitment to order over open borders.

Policy Shifts Yield Results

Catch-and-release, once the default, is dead under Trump. In May 2025, DHS released zero inadmissible aliens for the second straight month, a sharp pivot from Biden’s era, when 62,000 were released in May 2024 alone. The contrast is undeniable.

Trump also slammed shut so-called “lawful pathways.” Parole programs and government encouragement of asylum claims, which critics argue invited mass migration, are gone. The message is clear: legal entry or no entry.

The ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy is back, alongside agreements with safe third countries to accept deported aliens. These measures ensure asylum seekers don’t exploit U.S. soil while awaiting hearings. It’s pragmatic, not punitive.

Border Wall and Beyond

Trump’s border wall is rising again. Construction, halted under Biden, resumed to physically deter illegal crossings from Mexico. It’s a tangible symbol of a government serious about sovereignty.

Funding for NGOs that facilitated mass illegal migration has been cut off. These groups, once flush with federal dollars, no longer act as magnets for unauthorized migrants. The pipeline of chaos has been severed.

Detention ensures compliance. By holding aliens throughout their immigration process, Trump’s policies guarantee they show up for hearings, unlike the half-million no-shows under Biden. Expedited removals now take weeks, not years.

Efficiency in Immigration Enforcement

Asylum cases, even with appeals, are now resolved in months. This streamlined approach contrasts sharply with the endless delays of the past. Efficiency, not empathy alone, drives Trump’s system.

In May 2024, over 30,000 aliens were admitted monthly via parole, with thousands more “gotaways” slipping through undetected. Fast forward to June 2025, and the border is a different beast—quiet, controlled, and lawful. Trump’s policies have turned the tide.

The border crisis, once a progressive talking point, has been dismantled. Trump’s blend of detention, deportation agreements, and physical barriers has restored order. It’s a victory for policy over posturing, proving governance can still work.
