O’Rourke supports Newsom plan to gerrymander CA districts

Democrats are always railing against the GOP for gerrymandering while doing the same thing in states they control.

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently stated that he is going to counter Texas by gerrymandering CA districts to give Dems an advantage.

Not so surprisingly, Beto O’Rourke supports the idea, but he had one more surprise to tell everyone.

Gerrymandering

This is just something that happens with whatever party is in charge. I don’t want to say it is good or bad, but it has been happening ever since I can remember, and the opposing side always acts outraged, even though they are doing the same thing.

When new Texas lines were proposed, Newsom suggested doing the same thing to limit the number of seats the GOP could win in California.

He stated, “We can act holier than thou. We can sit on the sidelines, talk about the way the world should be. Or, we can recognize the existential nature that is this moment.”

The humor of all this is that he is acting as though the Dems are only doing this because of the actions taken by Republicans, but they always do this. The argument is utterly ridiculous.

Beto Supports It

Ideally, control of district lines would be up to a non-partisan committee in each state, or even federally, but non-partisan does not exist right now.

Instead of recommending something such as that, O’Rourke, who has failed at his last three elections, wants Democrats to be “ruthless” when it comes to gerrymandering.

He stated, "We have to get serious. We have to be absolutely ruthless about getting back in power. So, yes, in California, in Illinois, in New York, wherever we have the trifecta of power, we have to use that to its absolute extent.”

His next comment was comical when you consider what we have seen Democrats do to stay in power. O’Rourke added, "Gov. Gavin Newsom has talked about redistricting in his state. I think it’s time we matched fire with fire. Democrats in the past too often have been more concerned with being right than being in power. And we‘ve seen the Republicans only care about being in power regardless of what is right."

One More Time

O’Rourke, even though he has been a complete and utter failure outside of his congressional district, refused to rule out one more run for office.

The professional candidate, when asked about another possible run for office, stated, “I don’t know. Right now, I’m holding these town halls all over the state of Texas, across the country to listen to people to bring them together and to channel our anger into action. But I’m very optimistic about Democrats’ opportunity in 2026.”

Historically, the White House incoming party loses the House during its first midterm cycle, but that is still up in the air this time around simply because Democrats cannot get out of their own way.

Their collective approval rating is in the mid-20s right now, mostly because they continue to hold the line on illegal immigration and have dug in for transgenders in women’s sports. It should be a blue wave in 2026, but at best, it looks like it might be a ripple in the pond. If the GOP can get its act together, it could wind up defying history and the odds in 2026.
