The former governor of New York has had a career resurgence, but it will be short-lived if Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has his way.
Comer just asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to prosecute Cuomo for allegedly lying to Congress.
At one point, Andrew Cuomo was a rock star in the party, but his administration started to fall apart during COVID, with an unusually large number of deaths at nursing homes in his state.
Then he was rocked by several sexual harassment allegations, eventually leading to Cuomo's resignation from office and turning it over to Kathy Hochul.
At the time, Cuomo stated, “The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to governing.”
For the most part, Cuomo stayed out of the limelight and allowed the heat to die down, but that was all about to change.
Politicians are like drug dealers; they cannot stay out of the game for long, regardless of their crimes.
Cuomo is no different, and he saw the legal problems of Mayor Eric Adams as his “in” to get back into politics.
As Adams’ approval rating crashed and his indictment was announced, Cuomo decided to enter the mayoral election.
He stated, “I am not saying this is going to be easy. It won’t be easy, but I know we can turn the city around, and I believe I can help.”
Right now, Cuomo is the favorite, and his election seems imminent, but House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer just threw a wrench into the system.
Comer pitched the DOJ on prosecuting Cuomo for having “knowingly and willfully made false statements to Congress.” Comey stated, “Andrew Cuomo is a man with a history of corruption and deceit, now caught red-handed lying to Congress during the Select Subcommittee’s investigation into the COVID-19 nursing home tragedy in New York. This wasn’t a slip-up — it was a calculated cover-up by a man seeking to shield himself from responsibility for the devastating loss of life in New York’s nursing homes.
“Let’s be clear: lying to Congress is a federal crime. Mr. Cuomo must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The House Oversight Committee is prepared to fully cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation into Andrew Cuomo’s actions and ensure he’s held to account.”
The irony of this is that Comey, Trump, and his surrogates, for the last few years, all talked about the Dems only going after Trump after he said he was going to run for re-election, yet here is Comey wanting to charge Cuomo after he announced his campaign rather than immediately after the alleged crime took place. You just can’t make this stuff up.
