Trump removes ‘worst president’ label from Carter, gives it to Biden

This country has had some awful presidents over the last few decades, but the most disastrous presidency before 2020 was widely considered to be that of Jimmy Carter.

To be fair to Carter, he won the Oval Office at a time when most in his party would have failed, but some of his policies only added fuel to a fire that was already burning out of control.

The Carter presidency

Carter’s Middle East policies are often cited for the debacle that the troubled region remains today. We went from having relatively friendly leaders in place to those who hated this country and its people, believing we needed to be exterminated.

Carter’s Middle East policy was also reflected in his view on oil consumption at the time (we all remember the long lines at the gas stations during the Carter administration). Come to think of it, it is almost as though Biden stole a page out of Carter’s book on this front, creating much the same circumstances today with our energy dependence on other countries.

Carter was also president when control of the Panama Canal was transferred completely, a move that Trump would like to see reversed.

The most public and recognizable of Carter’s failures in office was his threat to boycott the 1980 Olympics over the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. There are still people today who will never forgive Carter for robbing those athletes of their time in the spotlight.

The Biden presidency

There is so much to choose from in regard to Biden’s failures, I will try to stick with the ones that have impacted us the most.

Some may say Biden’s management of COVID-19 was a success, but I would beg to differ. I thought Biden and Trump both failed on this front, but for far different reasons. For Biden, it was about forcing the vaccine and masks on the American people, literally mandating that first responders and members of our military to end their careers for not wanting to take an unproven vaccine. Of course, there are also the cover-ups regarding the vaccine and COVID-19 itself, many of which we will not get the full details for many years to come.

The Afghanistan withdrawal was a complete and utter disgrace that Biden tried to blame on Trump, but Biden had every right to cancel his predecessor's deal because the Taliban were not living up to their end of the bargain. I am still baffled at how the media never held Biden accountable for leaving American citizens behind enemy lines or having 13 of our service members killed for no good reason.

I think we can all agree that Biden’s biggest disaster was his failed immigration plan, which had so many trickle-down effects in this country. There is no need to rehash this as we have covered it extensively on these pages.

The new "worst"

Over the last week, Biden has emerged from his shell to deliver a few speeches, and it did not go well for him. He dropped his ice cream and continued to mumble, just reminding everyone that he had never truly been in office in the first place.

So, it was no surprise to see Trump take a jab at Biden this week while he was hosting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House.

Trump stated, "Worst administration in the history of our country. Worse than Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter died a happy man. You know why? Because he wasn‘t the worst. President Joe Biden was."

I have to agree with Trump on that one. As I noted above, Carter walked into a bad hand, where a monkey could have come along after COVID-19 and done a decent job. Biden had a golden opportunity, but his immigration and energy policies buried us all. For my money, Joe Biden is by far the worst president in modern history.
