Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) may have gotten a raw deal as Speaker, but he does not seem to be able to let it go.
Yet again, he has taken a shot at Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) when he should be trying to help him.
I never supported McCarthy for Speaker or party leader, and I was glad to see him ousted.
Having said that, he kind of got a raw deal, but it was deserved because he literally dared then-Rep. Matt Gaetz to try to oust him from his position.
McCarthy made promises he knew he could never keep in order to get the gavel, and when the caucus held him accountable, he found himself being ousted and embarrassed on a national scale.
Initially, he took it with grace, stating, “I may have lost this vote today, but as I walk out of this chamber I feel fortunate to have served.”
It was not long after McCarthy was ousted that he was set on revenge. He was clearly going to go after Gaetz, but Johnson was not safe from his wrath, either.
When McCarthy was asked to comment on Trump’s picks for his cabinet, McCarthy fired a shot at Gaetz, stating, “I think the choices are very good, except one. Gaetz won’t get confirmed, everybody knows that.”
McCarthy was right, but only in that Gaetz pulled his name from the hat before he could even go before committee.
The committees were fighting over the ethics probe that Gaetz believes McCarthy initiated as a part of the vetting process of Gaetz for the AG role. It is widely believed that Gaetz withdrew in the hopes of keeping the probe results a secret, but it all came out after the fact.
Those of you who read my reports regularly know I am not exactly a fan of Johnson, either, but he was part of the establishment with McCarthy, so I would think that McCarthy would help him instead of go after him, but he is far too petty for that.
McCarthy seems to take pleasure every time Johnson has a challenge in the House, and today is no different, as he took yet another swipe at him.
McCarthy hinted that Trump is doing Johnson’s job by getting the GOP House members behind legislation, stating, “President Trump brought them into the Oval Office, talked to them, and lo and behold, they were able to pass the instructions for this reconciliation bill. Now the hard part begins, but you can’t give President Trump enough credit. He’s not only the president, he’s now having to be the Speaker and run the House at the same time.”
Someone may want to remind McCarthy that Trump backed Johnson for the Speaker role, so this is also on Trump, yet McCarthy would never dare say a bad word against Trump. McCarthy is a sore loser and petty, and he proves me right every day for wanting him ousted. It may have been a raw deal for him, but it definitely was better for the party.
