House GOP Seeks Communication Records Between Cassidy Hutchinson And Fani Willis For Jan. 6 Probe

The House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, chaired by Barry Loudermilk, is probing communications between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s office and Cassidy Hutchinson regarding her testimony on the U.S. Capitol breach.

The Daily Caller reported that Loudermilk, Chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, has sent a letter to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis seeking information about an alleged interview conducted with Cassidy Hutchinson, a key Jan. 6 Committee witness.

Loudermilk's letter, first obtained by the Daily Caller, requests all records of communication between Hutchinson and Willis’s office.

This move comes as the Subcommittee evaluates the reliability and implications of Hutchinson's testimony on the security of the U.S. Capitol.

Requests for Detailed Communication Records

In the letter, Loudermilk highlights the importance of Hutchinson’s testimony, referencing its impact on the Select Committee’s findings and the security at the Capitol. He seeks detailed communication records, including any interactions from January 1, 2021, to June 5, 2024.

“The testimony provided by Ms. Hutchinson in the course of your investigation is relevant to our evaluation of her testimony and the direct implications her testimony has on the security of the United States Capitol,” Loudermilk wrote.

He asks if any members of Willis's office interacted with Hutchinson during this period and requests the names, dates, and copies of these communications.

Hutchinson had previously given a controversial testimony claiming that former President Donald Trump attempted to lunge for the steering wheel to drive to the Capitol on January 6. However, her claims were denied by Secret Service sources.

The Subcommittee, as Loudermilk expressed, is evaluating the reliability of Hutchinson's testimony, which significantly influenced the findings of the Select Committee on the January 6 event.

“This Subcommittee obtained evidence that your staff in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office made numerous attempts to reach out to Cassidy Hutchinson to seek her testimony,” Loudermilk continued. He added that some attempts even involved contacting her mother.

Seeking Transparency and Accountability

Loudermilk emphasizes the need for transparency while outlining the urgency for these records.

He also mentions Hutchinson calling the Jan. 6 committee “bs” in a text message obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.

“The Subcommittee is evaluating the reliability of Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony, which was heavily relied on by the Select Committee, and the findings related to the security of the United States Capitol, it is crucial for us to review any documents and records you have provided by or obtained from Ms. Hutchinson," he continued.

Loudermilk insists on a response to his request by June 20, 2024. As of now, no immediate feedback has been provided by either Hutchinson or Willis’s office.

This investigation is part of a broader effort to clarify the nature and content of communications surrounding Hutchinson's testimony.

By analyzing these interactions, the Subcommittee aims to piece together a clearer narrative of the events leading up to and following January 6.

The request to Willis's office comes amid ongoing scrutiny of testimony and evidence presented related to the Capitol storming. This effort includes cross-referencing various pieces of testimony to ensure accuracy and integrity in the findings.

Looking Forward

House Republicans continue to stress the importance of understanding the full context of all communications related to the January 6 investigation. This includes not only Hutchinson’s testimonies but also any corroborating or contradicting statements from other sources.

Ensuring thorough and impartial review remains a priority for the Subcommittee, necessitating cooperation from all involved parties. As the deadline for response approaches, all eyes are on the potential revelations from Willis’s office regarding the sought-after communications.

In conclusion, this investigation underscores the ongoing efforts to scrutinize and verify the key testimonies impacting the narrative of January 6 events. The request from Barry Loudermilk highlights the critical need for transparency and accountability in evaluating the reliability of witness statements and their broader implications on national security.
