38-year-old news anchor dies after medical emergency

A "beloved" news anchor has died at the age of 38 following a medical emergency.

The anchor, according to Fox News, is Amanda Hanson. She was a news personality for the Memphis, Tennessee, station Action News 5.

The outlet announced Hanson's passing in a social media post on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024.

The outlet wrote:

We are devastated to announce the loss of our colleague Amanda Hanson. Amanda, a beloved journalist, Memphian, colleague and friend, joined the Action News 5 team in 2021 and was the driving force behind the Action News 5 Digital Desk. She was 38 years old.

In a subsequent message that was posted the following day, the outlet posted pictures of memorials that have been set up around the office for Hanson. The photographs were captioned, "Amanda, you are so missed."

Reports have yet to indicate exactly what caused Hanson's death, but the outlet K8 News, where Hanson used to work, reports that her passing followed a medical emergency.

"She had a medical emergency earlier this week and died from complications," the outlet reported.

Action News 5 has posted an article to its website in which it paid tribute to Hanson.

The article, in part, reads:

Amanda’s infectious energy, unwavering dedication to our team, and innovative spirit propelled us to new heights. As a key member of the news management team, she served as a close advisor on all things digital, especially excelling in social media. Notably, Amanda pursued her master’s degree in strategic communications in 2020, sharing and experimenting with her newfound knowledge always to the benefit of our team.

The outlet goes on to reveal that Hanson was recently married.

The article continues:

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Amanda was an extraordinary person. Her recent marriage to Darren brought her immense joy, evident in a recent video her sister shared of them dancing in their newly remodeled kitchen. Her renovation tales never failed to bring laughter to our group, with Amanda often laughing the hardest.

The 38-year-old Hanson had been working in media since the age of 20. She began her television career with WREG-TV before moving on to KAIT in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

It was in 2021 that Hanson switched over to Action News 5 in Memphis, Tennessee. Reports indicate that she was particularly excited by the change because this brought her closer to her hometown of Bartlett.

K8 reveals that Hanson had the nickname "Dancin' Hanson" for her participation in weekly dance parties that the station had on Fridays.
