3 TN Democrats lose committee assignments after storming state capitol

Three Democratic lawmakers were removed from their committee assignments after joining a mob that stormed the Tennessee state capitol last week.

The actions were part of a larger group that entered the building to protest for gun control rights after a school shooting in Nashville last week.

The details

"Tennessee House Republicans voted Monday to strip committee assignments from state Reps. Justin Jones, Justin J. Pearson and Gloria Johnson," Fox News reported.

"The lawmakers joined anti-gun protestors in storming the Capitol last week after a 28-year-old transgender person opened fire inside the Covenant School in Nashville, which killed six people, including three children," it added.

The latest developments

"House Resolutions have been filed against Rep. Justin Jones, Rep. Justin Pearson and Rep. Gloria Johnson to formally expel them from the Tennessee House," reporter Chris Davis tweeted.

"Earliest it could come is Thursday. If Republicans vote as a caucus, they have enough votes to expel," he added.

The state's GOP leaders clearly have the votes to do so but it is unclear if the party is united in removing the lawmakers completely.

The attitude in Nashville has certainly shifted after six people, including three nine-year-old students, were killed in a school shooting last week.

Two officers have been noted as heroes for charging the building and stopping the shooter, reported as 28-year-old Audrey Hale, a former student at the school.

Two Nashville police officers have also been heralded as heroes for their response to storm the building to quickly end the shooter's activity, despite gunfire from a second-floor window at police cars.

The next few days should reveal whether the heated response by the three Democrats will lead to more than losing committee assignments over their involvement in storming the nation's Capitol Building in what some are labeling an insurrection during a difficult week in Tennessee's capital city following a tragic shooting.
