Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced that 10,000 assault rifles will be distributed among civilian security teams as part of its war response to attacks from Hamas.
Gvir's news comes after Israel's Defense Minister previously announced plans to distribute weapons among civilians near the Gaza Strip's border.

"We will turn the world upside down so that towns are protected," Gvir said.
"I have given instructions for massively arming the civilian security teams to provide solutions for towns and cities, and so as not to leave towns unprotected, preparations will be made for a Guardian of the Walls 2," he added.

"These will be distributed, starting today, to various security guards and citizen patrols throughout northern Israel," it continued.

"Helmets and bulletproof vests have also been acquired and will be distributed along with the assault rifles," the Times of Israel reported.
"The step comes after some civilian security teams reported they had no weapons to fight off Hamas terrorists during Saturday’s devastating assault on southern Israel," it added.
The actions come after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed the country would win the war against Hamas following unprovoked terror attacks that began Saturday.
Over 1,000 people have now died in the battle, including an unknown number of Hamas terrorists killed in strikes by Israel's military in response.
The new addition of arming civilian groups with assault weapons will add to the response by Israel that seeks to overwhelm Hamas and destroy locations where missiles are housed in the Gaza Strip. The actions seek to stop the destruction that has killed more Jewish people at one time than any event since the Holocaust, leading to massive grief in Israel along with a strong military effort to quickly end the work of Hamas in the region.
