Republican Sen. Mitt Romney (UT) is already easily one of the most unpopular GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill, perhaps only bested by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). He's about to get a lot more unpopular on the right, if that's even possible.

The Guardian obtained transcripts of a new book by Gabriel Debenedetti called The Long Alliance: The Imperfect Union of Joe Biden and Barack Obama, and it revealed that Romney was a driving force behind pushing Joe Biden onto the presidential campaign trail, apparently in a conversation between the two that took place the night Romney won his Senate race. 

One line from the book read, "At one point he [Biden] connected with Mitt Romney, who'd been easily elected to the Senate that night as a rare Trump-opposing Republican. They were warm as Biden cheered Romney's win.

The author added: "Then Obama's old rival got to the point: You have to run, Romney said."

The Guardian noted of the book:

In a note on sourcing, Debenedetti says his book is “primarily the product of hundreds of interviews” with “colleagues, aides, rivals, confidants, allies and eyewitnesses from every stage” of Obama and Biden’s careers since 2003.

When Romney urged Biden to take a crack at winning the White House, the Utah senator had already drawn lines in the sand in his vehement anti-Trump stance. Romney voted to convict Trump in not one, but both of the sham impeachment trials brought against the former president by triggered RINOs and hysteria-driven Dems.

Romney, during most of his time in the Senate, while Trump was in office, played nice with the party and with Trump, often voting for his initiatives. Clearly, it was only for political expediency.

Only time will tell if Romney's anti-Trump stance will prove a winning formula, but many believe with Trump's popularity at an all-time high in the party, Romney could eventually go the way of Cheney.
