Woman's body found dead in a walk-in Arby's freezer

Fox News reports that an investigation is currently underway after a woman's deceased body was found in the walk-in freezer of the Arby's restaurant.

Initially, investigators labeled the death as "suspicious." But, it appears that this label may have been removed as the investigation has progressed.

The incident took place at the Arby's restaurant in New Iberia, Louisiana. The woman's body was found on Thursday at around 6:30 p.m. by an employee.

New Iberia Police Captain Leland Laseter provided some details about the situation.

Laseter, according to the local outlet KADN News 15, said:

So, it was an employee that discovered the female deceased inside the cooler, [and] the deceased is an employee of the restaurant.

The woman has yet to be identified by name. But, Laseter did confirm that the woman was the manager of the restaurant.

After looking further into the matter, Laseter said that it is looking more and more as though the situation was an "accident."

Laseter said:

A situation like this is unusual, so we’re taking extra precautions during the investigation. (We) pretty much have completed our process at the crime scene. After completely processing the crime scene... this does not seem like a homicide, it seems like an accident.

Laseter said that, initially, the death did appear to be "suspicious," but that, thus far in the investigation, his team has yet to discover any piece of evidence that would suggest that foul play has taken place, which is why he is starting to lean towards the possibility that the death was an accident.

Laseter, though, insisted that it is too early to make any definite conclusions. He emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

One of the big parts of the investigation that has yet to be completed is the autopsy of the woman's body. The body has been taken to the morgue, and it is hoped that a cause of death can be determined.

"We're going to re-examine all the evidence tomorrow and they're going to conduct an autopsy to give us the cause and manner of death," Laseter said. "So, there are a few more steps that we need to take before a (final) determination is made."

In addition to the autopsy, Laseter indicated that his department will likely conduct more interviews. Investigators initially interviewed several employees after the body was found. Laseter said that some of these employees may be re-interviewed.

The next big piece of evidence, though, will likely be the autopsy results. And, those are expected at some point this week.
