Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes "incited" Kenosha Wisconsin riots in 2020

The riots of 2020 were disgraceful. One lawmaker is finally holding one of the responsible parties accountable.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said the anti-police rhetoric used by Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes "incited" the Kenosha, Wisconsin riots, Breitbart reported. Johnson made these remarks Friday during the debate for U.S. Senate for Wisconsin.

"Let's take a look at what happened in Kenosha," Johnson began. "The day after the first night of rioting, when the used car lot was set on fire, instead of trying to calm things down, the Lt. Governor gave a press conference and said it felt like it meant that it was carried out against one of our community members," the Wisconsin Republican said.

"He incited the riot. He and the governor didn't provide the manpower to stop the riots," Johnson said. "If you are going to focus on a riot, let's focus on 570 riots and two thousand police officers injured," Johnson pointed out.

At the time, Barnes was pushing the since-debunked narrative that Jacob Blake was an innocent man gunned down by racist police officers. However, Blake was brandishing a knife, threatening to kidnap his kids, and in the process of stealing his ex-girlfriend's car when he was shot by police.

However, Barnes's only rebuttal to Johnson was to cite January 6. "[An officer] was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher," Barnes claimed. "When we talk about respect for law enforcement, let's talk about the officers he [Johnson] left behind because of insurrection he supported."

"There is so much more we need to do to keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals," Barnes added. For him, that means banning assault rifles and outlawing hollow-point bullets used in deer hunting.

The lies that were told by Barnes and others cost people their lives and livelihoods in the cities that burned. At least Johnson held Barnes's feet to the fire -- and so will the voters.
