Wife of Democrat Steven Horsford accuses him of intimidation and abuse just days ahead of election day

Politicians have chosen a public life. That means their private misdeeds become newsworthy, especially when their behavior is so unhinged.

The wife of Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV) accused her estranged husband of intimidation and abuse just days ahead of Election Day, the Washington Examiner reported. Sonya Douglass claimed she spoke out after Horsford asked her to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Horsford is seeking re-election in Nevada's 4th Congressional District. The race has become competitive, with the state now in play for Republicans in the midterms.

Perhaps that's why Horsford was pressuring Douglass to stay mum about their marriage woes. She contends this move prompted her to go back on previous calls for privacy for her and their three children.

"I was just minding my business until Steven and his attorney demanded I sign an NDA that would ban me from speaking about my 22-year marriage, his 10-year affair, and our divorce FOREVER," Douglass tweeted over the weekend. "It includes $10,000 fines for each remark or social post. Even to a therapist! Y'all!"

She went on to say that Horsford has been "bullying" and engaging in "intimidation" since their split. Douglass has even accused Horsford of "going through the trash" she's thrown out.

Douglass began rumblings of her displeasure with Horsford's reelection bid in March due in part to his affair with a younger woman. In 2009, the congressman took up with a woman who was 15 years younger and, at the time, was working as an intern for the late Democratic Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid.

His paramour, who identifies herself under the pseudonym "Love Jones," was a 21-year-old senior in college at the time their affair began. She has been spilling the details on a podcast, "Mistress for Congress."

Sam Peters, Horsford's GOP challenger, is now calling for the lawmaker to step down. "The fact that a sitting congressman, disgraced by an admitted 10-year-long affair, is now embroiled in a circumstance so ugly that he is attempting to force his wife to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, with $10K fines for the mere mention of the affair that he is responsible for, is disgraceful and draws to question his character, his trustworthiness, and his ability to serve in his capacity as a congressman," Peters said in a campaign-issued statement.

"More than that, there are now allegations from these public comments by his wife that he has been bullying and using intimidation tactics — and potentially violence," Peters continued. "This is NOT behavior becoming of an elected official, nor does it reflect credibility on the U.S. House of Representatives."

Peters had lost his Republican primary bid for the House of Representatives in 2020. However, his chances to become a congressman may be better as Americans' appetite for conservative leaders has increased due to the failures of President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

If these allegations are true, Horsford's behavior should disqualify him from public office. However, Democrats seldom care about decency or even sanity when it comes to their politicians.
