Whoopi Goldberg suspended from ‘The View’ following Holocaust comments

Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from ABC’s “The View” for two weeks due to backlash over her comments about the Holocaust.

According to a report by The Daily Caller, the longtime host made the problematic comments on Monday saying that the Holocaust was “not about race.”

“It’s not about race, it’s about man’s inhumanity to man,” Goldberg said. “This is white people doing it to white people, so y’all going to fight amongst yourselves.”

“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments.

“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” ABC News President Kim Goodwin said in a statement Tuesday night.

Goldberg made headlines across the nation with her comments that many said was belittled the Holocaust, according to the New York Times.

Goldberg appeared on Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” on Monday night and walked back her remarks that caused such a significant stir about the lack of racial motivation behind the millions of deaths.

“I did it to myself,” Goldberg said in response to the backlash, before also tweeting an apology Monday evening.

‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people – who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected,” said Goldberg.

“The View” host was known for facilitating racially-based conversations about the status of racism in the nation today. Goldberg’s attempt to boil down the catastrophic death under Nazi leadership appears to have come too close to a remaining nerve.
