Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has made headlines for weeks after enacting and enforcing some of the most draconian lockdown orders in the entire US.
She was already under fire for overstepping her authority to keep Michiganders locked down, but a bigger scandal erupted after her husband was busted trying to leverage his position to covertly break the orders over memorial day weekend.
Whitmer clamped down on travel within the state ahead of Memorial Day weekend, warning her constituents to stay away from popular vacation spots as the holiday approached.
The scandal exploded when Tad Dowker, owner of NorthShore Dock LLC, said that Whitmer’s husband, Marc Mallory, had contacted him to request permission to get a “boat in the water” ahead of the holiday weekend.
“This morning, I was out working when the office called me, there was a gentleman on hold who wanted his boat in the water before the weekend,” Dowker posted in a now-deleted Facebook post. “Being Memorial weekend and the fact that we started working three weeks late means there is no chance this is going to happen.”
“Our office personnel had explained this to the man and he replied, ‘I am the husband to the governor, will this make a difference?'” Dowker continued.
Whitmer had said last week that although restrictions were being lifted on the very area that Northshore Dock was located, “if you don’t live in these regions… think long and hard before you take a trip into them.”
Whitmer and her husband live in Lansing, MI, over 150 miles away from where her husband requested to launch a boat.
