White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday that President Joe Biden has no intention of firing Dr. Anthony Fauci, according to Breitbart News.
Calls for Fauci’s removal have grown since the leak of some of his early pandemic emails indicate that he was saying one thing to his colleagues and another to the American people.
“Dr. Fauci is a renowned career civil servant. He’s overseen the management of multiple global health crises, and attacks launched on him are certainly something we would not stand by,” Psaki said.
Fauci worked for the Trump administration on their COVID-19 relief team but began to fall from favor with former President Donald Trump late in his administration.
The surprising turn of events came when Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked if there were “any circumstances” under which Biden would fire Fauci.
Psaki replied with an emphatic “No.” The White House communications aide said that she did understand the fascination with Fauci’s emails she did not plan to respond but would leave that up to the doctor:
“I’m going to let Dr. Fauci speak to his own defense of his emails from 17 months ago before this president even took office,” she said.
President Joe Biden himself has also been outspoken in his support of Fauci, saying on Friday that he is “very confident in Dr. Fauci.”
Fauci’s seemingly selfish motivation for assuring Americans that COVID-19 was not leaked from the labs have Americans wondering how else the White House presidential advisers might be misleading trusting voters.
