White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris does not plan to visit the nation’s southern border, despite the recent report of dozens of illegal immigrants easily crossing into the nation on Sunday.
“I expect she will make a trip to the Northern Triangle at some point soon. So that would be where she would travel given her purview,” Psaki answered regarding the issue during her daily briefing on Monday according to the New York Post.
The Fox News video features drone footage captured from Sunday that showed nearly 50 illegal immigrants entering the U.S. with only one Border Patrol agent available to respond.
The video strongly suggested Border Patrol is overwhelmed and understaffed to respond to the recent surge of illegal immigrants since President Joe Biden has entered office.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also warned of increased drug trafficking along the nation’s border. Abbott addressed the growing concern during a Fox News interview on Sunday.
“The Texas Department of Public Safety patrols the border every single day. And they have seen an 800 percent increase in the amount of fentanyl coming across the border. They seized this year enough fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in the entire state of New York,” Abbott said.
The White House response regarding Harris’ role reveals the ongoing inaction to American concerns regarding illegal immigration. Despite increased frustration on the issue, neither President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris has offered significant response.
The topic will become increasingly complicated as the 2022 midterm elections near. Candidates from both parties will be pressed for answers to how the crisis will be handled, as the ongoing immigration spike appears it will continue for some time.
