Former President Donald Trump was accused of many things throughout his presidency that turned out to be false. Now another narrative just fell apart, once again vindicating the former president.
An interim report from the Senate Judiciary Committee has revealed that Trump was not behind an effort within the Department of Justice to overturn the 2020 election results, the Washington Examiner reported. Committee member Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse revealed the details on NBC News’s “Meet the Press” Sunday.
The nearly 400-page report examined whether Trump was behind an effort to replace acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen with Jeffrey Clark, a DOJ official who would be more sympathetic to the embattled president’s plight. Suspecting fraud, Trump sought to pressure states to overturn their election results and tip them in his favor.
“What we don’t know is who was really behind this,” Whitehouse told host Chuck Todd. “The text of the transcript and the body English of the witnesses suggests that they had very little regard for this character Jeffrey Clark, who was nominally going to be the new attorney general,” he explained.
“They doubted his qualifications to even have that role,” Whitehouse added. “So, it’s a possibility, I suppose, that he saw this moment and grabbed it, but it’s an equally real possibility that he was a cog in a larger machine, and we’ve got a lot of work to do to figure out how that machine ran through this period, who was behind it, where the money came from, and what’s been going on.”
When the host sought to clarify who else they thought it was “somebody other than Donald Trump” behind effort and “pulling the strings,” Whitehouse told Todd they did not have an answer. However, it seems they have at least excluded Trump from the scheme.
Trump wasn’t off base in being suspicious of election irregularities. Information has continued to come out that there were many questionable things happening in swing states on election night, and only recently Georgia workers were fired for shredding voter registration applications, The Hill reported.
The former president has been investigated in every way possible, and somehow he always comes out of it completely clean. The Democrats are eager to pin something on him even after he’s left office, but so far Trump seems to be the most honest politician to grace the White House.
