White House aide tests positive for coronavirus, traveled with Joe Biden during global climate summit

Despite vaccinations, COVID-19 outbreaks continue in the Biden administration. The latest to be diagnosed is now stuck in Glasgow, Scotland.

The White House official tested positive on Tuesday, the last day of President Joe Biden’s trip to the global climate summit, the Washington Examiner reported. The administration was not naming the aide over privacy concerns.

“This individual did not have close contact with the president and is not exhibiting any symptoms,” a White House official said of the affected individual. “The person has remained in Scotland to complete the quarantine period with the support of the administration” with the caveat that “additional tests to date have been inconclusive.”

During that same event, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also tested positive for the virus, according to Fox News. “He is feeling good and isolating in his hotel room. He is fully vaccinated,” the mayor’s office mentioned in a tweet.

This comes on the heels of other fully-vaccinated administration officials who have tested positive for the virus, according to The Hill. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, State Department spokesperson Ned Price, and White House press secretary Jen Psaki have also recently experienced so-called breakthrough cases.

Biden has been a staunch advocate of vaccine mandates and recently doubled down on them, Fox News reported. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will implement an announced requirement for companies with more than 100 employees to have all of their workers vaccinated by Jan. 4 or face fines.

Now they’re mulling imposing the same requirement on companies with fewer than 100 employees, a move that would essentially mean anyone employed would need the shot.  “OSHA needs additional time to assess the capacity of smaller employers, and is seeking comment to help the agency make that determination,” a summary by the agency said.

Vaccine mandates are unpopular with Americans, but Biden is obsessed with getting the jab into every arm in the country. It remains to be seen how many more breakthrough infections will happen even with a fully vaccinated workforce, however.
