Weather anchor Al Roker reveals the cause of his absence from television

Al Roker just revealed that the reason he has been missing from television is that he has been hospitalized.

Roker, the longtime weather anchor of NBC's Today show, a position that he has held for decades now - since 1996 - made the revelation in a message that he posted to Instagram on Friday.

"So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I've been," Roker began.

Those questions resulted from the fact that the 68-year-old Roker had been missing from television screens for two weeks before he posted this message to Instagram on Friday. Roker continued by explaining where he had been.

"Last week, I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs," Roker revealed.

This is a serious health issue that, in the worst of cases, could even be life-threatening. But, it appears that Roker was able to get the necessary medical treatment in time and that he is going to be able to recover.

"After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery," Roker said.

It is unclear both how long this recovery will take and what the recovery will entail. There is a wide range of possibilities, and Roker did not provide further details.

Rather, Roker concluded his Instagram update, writing, "Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend, everyone."

Roker included with the message a photograph of some flowers, which he presumably received while in the hospital, and an "NBC News Weather" coffee cup.

Unfortunately for Roker, this is not the first time that he has had to take time off from his job in order to address a serious health issue. Back in November 2020, he also was absent for a period of time from his usual post on NBC while he obtained treatment for prostate cancer.

On that occasion, Roker was able to return to television screens within that very same month of November. Let's hope for a similar speedy recovery for Roker with this latest health issue.
