Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) claimed racism was behind allegations that a building he owns that now housing a questionable massage parlor that claims the location is used for prostitution.
The La Crosse, Wisconsin, building occupied by Asian Sunny Massage has been involved in several police reports, first opened its doors in the spring of 2018—about three years ago. Local news reports, according to Breitbart News.
Asian Sunny Massage has advertised on multiple websites known to law enforcement for illicit advertising, according to a Fox News report. The spa also previously advertised under the name Impression Spa before changing its name, according to the report.
The LaCrosse Tribune reported in April “Posts on the salon’s Facebook page, which still uses the name Impression Spa, show screenshots from apparent advertisements the spa has made on websites known for promoting sex work.”
It added, “Several posts show a screenshot of an advertisement for the salon on AssortList using photos of Asian women, a site similar to Craigslist that has an ‘adult’ category that lists escorts, body rubs, ‘adult jobs’ and more.”
The outlet also noted Kind disclosed between $15,001 and $50,000 in rental income from the building in 2018 and 2019.
Kind has served in Congress since 1997. His website biography notes he attended “Harvard University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. Later, Ron earned a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a Law Degree from the University of Minnesota.”
Kind had denied any wrongdoing and released the following statement: “This is a baseless smear rooted in racism and insinuations. Tawni and I have never received any complaint from the community or police about this small business. Because of Derrick Van Orden and his allies pushing lies, local police are increasing patrols to ensure the safety of this Asian-owned small business.”
