VP Harris donated less to charity in 2021 than those with similar incomes

In keeping with customary practice, Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday released 2021 tax returns for herself and her husband, Doug Emhoff, and the documentation revealed that the pair donated less to charitable causes than most other Americans who earn similar incomes, as Fox News reports.

Though the Harris-Emhoff duo had an adjusted gross income of $1,655,563 and paid $523,371 in federal taxes, they gave a mere $22,100 to charity for the year 2021, a figure that represents just 1.3% of their earnings.

That rate, as Fox News noted, is under half of the amount typically given by earners in their lofty income bracket, who donate, on average, $3.1% of their annual takings.

If the vice president and second gentleman had given at that rate in 2021, they would have sent $51,322 to the charities of their choice.

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden also fell behind their financial peers in terms of their 2021 charitable largesse, as the New York Post reports, with the couple reporting $610,702 in adjusted gross income, paying $183,925 in state and federal taxes, and donating a paltry $17,394 to charitable causes.

As such, the Bidens gave 2.8% of their total income to what they deemed worthy causes, a rate that fell below the average donation level for Americans earning between $500,000 and $2 million.

The Post further noted that the largest single donation from the Bidens in 2021 was a $5,000 contribution to the Beau Biden Foundation, named for the president’s late son, which purports to help prevent child abuse, but has a questionable history of using significant portions of donated funds for things other than its declared mission.

Interestingly, in 2020, the year in which Biden was seeking the White House, he and his wife were rather more philanthropic than they were in 2021, giving $30,704 to charity in total.

For all of their talk about pitching in and doing one’s part for the greater good, these figures seem to suggest that, in reality, the nation’s highest-ranking Democrats instead believe that charity begins at home.
