Volodymyr Zelensky warns Americans of the consequences they will face if America stops backing Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky just warned Americans that they will face significant consequences if they stop backing Ukraine in its war against Russia.

Zelensky's warning, according to the Washington Examiner, came during a press conference that he held on Friday, Feb. 24, the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky, during the press conference, was asked about the fact that there appears to be increasing calls, particularly in America, for the U.S. government to stop funding Ukraine. It is in response to this that Zelensky issued his warning.

"I can tell them one thing," Zelensky said. "If they do not change their opinion, if they do not understand us, if they do not support Ukraine, they will lose NATO, they will lose the clout of the United States, they will lose the leadership position they are enjoying in the world."

"I’m actually very happy that we have bipartisan support, but we keep hearing those messages from time to time, and they’re dangerous," Zelensky added.

What the questioner was referring to, in asking Zelensky this question, is the fact that polls have indicated that there is a growing number of Americans who do not want to see the United States government continue to provide billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine.

A recent poll from Associated Press-NORC, for example, found that only 48% of Americans now want to continue supporting Ukraine. Back in May, this same poll showed that 60% of Americans were in favor of such support.

This is only one poll of many with similar results.

Despite this, however, the U.S. government continues to provide huge amounts of support to Ukraine: over $122 billion worth of support.

The Examiner reports:

The aid consists of approximately $67 billion of military aid, $28 billion of economic aid, nearly $15 billion in humanitarian aid, and roughly $3 billion includes money meant for oversight, support for Ukraine’s nuclear power sector, moving U.S. embassy personnel, and spending on investigation of oligarchs and war crimes.

On Friday, the U.S. government vowed another $2 billion in aid to Ukraine.

Also, President Joe Biden, during his recent trip to Ukraine, promised Zelensky that the United State would continue supporting Ukraine in its efforts against Russia.

So, regardless of what the American people want, it does not appear that the U.S. government will slow down its spending on Ukraine anytime soon.
