U.S. sends in the military after North Korea's missile launch

Fox News reports that the United States has responded to North Korea's latest missile launch with a display of the U.S. military's power.

This display came in the form of two supersonic U.S. Air Force B-1B bombers, which the U.S. military flew alongside South Korean and Japanese warplanes in a joint exercise that took place over South Korea on Saturday.

Fox News reports that the B-1B bomber, in particular, "irks" North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un because of its capabilities.

The U.S. Air Force has provided a statement explaining some of these capabilities of the B-1B bombers, which are said to be the "backbone" of the U.S. military's bomber force.

"It can rapidly deliver massive quantities of precision and non-precision weapons against any adversary, anywhere in the world, at any time," the Air Force said. It also noted that the B-1 B's "low-radar cross-section" allows the bomber to form "an integrated, robust defense system that supports penetration of hostile airspace."

This all comes after North Korea, on Friday, conducted another missile launch. This particular launch was of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that is reported to both be able to reach anywhere in the U.S. mainland and to be able to carry a nuclear payload.

The missile launch was a continuation of the aggression that the world has seen from North Korea over the past month or so. North Korea is clearly trying to make itself appear as a major military force capable of competing with the world's best militaries.

Friday's missile launch by North Korea has garnered international condemnation.

"The United States condemns these actions and calls on the DPRK to refrain from any further unlawful and destabilizing acts," the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement released after North Korea's missile launch.

The United Nations Security Council is going to hold an emergency meeting on Monday in relation to North Korea's missile launch. A problem, however, is North Korea's relationship with China and Russia, which has helped North Korea to avoid punishment from the United Nations.

Saturday's showing of the joint force, accordingly, is one of the best responses that the West can offer.

U.S. Forces Korea put out a statement saying:

This training demonstrated once again the ROK-US combined defense capability and posture based on the alliance’s overwhelming power, and the U.S. ironclad commitment to providing extended deterrence in the defense of the Korean Peninsula.
