U.S. Attorney confirms his Hunter Biden investigation was 'limited'

David Weiss, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware who was at the center of the federal government's Hunter Biden investigation, just confirmed that his investigation was indeed "limited."

Weiss did so, according to Fox News, in a letter that he recently sent to U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the head of the House Judiciary Committee.

This comes after a whistleblower - IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary A. Shapley Jr. - told Congress that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, essentially, obstructed Weiss's investigation of Hunter Biden.

Shapely claims that Garland did so by, among other things, not allowing Weiss to bring charges against Hunter Biden in Washington, D.C., and California.

This revelation came at about the same time that the federal government reached a plea deal with Hunter Biden over tax and gun crimes. In exchange for Biden's guilty plea, Biden managed to escape jail tail. Some argue that the government went easy on Biden because of the fact that his father is the U.S. president.

Garland has denied the allegation that he interfered with Weiss's investigation. Additionally, Garland has claimed that he "would support Mr. Weiss explaining or testifying on these matters when he deems appropriate."

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have been investigating the situation. And, to this end, they have been trying to speak with Weiss and to obtain from Weiss materials from his investigation.

Weiss up until Friday was silent. But, he broke that silence by sending a letter to Jordan.

In the letter, Weiss refused to hand over the materials, from the Hunter Biden investigation, that Jordan's committee had asked him for, writing, "I am not at liberty to provide the materials you seek.

Weiss wrote:

"The whistleblowers" allegations relate to a criminal investigation that is now being prosecuted in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. At this juncture, I am required to protect confidential law enforcement information and deliberative communications related to the case. Thus, I will not provide specific information related to the Hunter Biden investigation at this time.

Weiss, though, did speak about the alleged limitations of his investigation. He, in fact, said that his "charging authority is geographically limited" to his "home district."

Weiss wrote:

If venue for a case lies elsewhere, common Departmental practice is to contact the United States Attorney’s Office for the district in question and determine whether it wants to partner on the case. If not, I may request Special Attorney status from the Attorney General.

Weiss went on to claim that, in this case, he has "been assured that, if necessary after the above process," he "would be granted" that authority in "the District of Columbia, the Central District of California, or any other district where charges could be brought in this matter."

Weiss clearly tried, here, to refute the whistleblower's allegations. But, he made have unwittingly done the opposite.
