TX Dems reportedly plotting to risk arrest and leave the state to block voting integrity measures

Democrats often act like spoiled children when they don’t get their way. Unfortunately for them, they will be punished like adults.

GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has threatened to arrest a group of Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C. to avoid voting on their state’s election security legislation, according to NBC News. More than 50 members of the Texas House Democratic Caucus hopped onto chartered planes headed for the U.S. Capitol hoping to paralyze the state’s voting body.

“Texas Democrats’ decision to break a quorum of the Texas Legislature and abandon the Texas State Capitol inflicts harm on the very Texans who elected them to serve,” the governor said in a statement. “As they fly across the country on cushy private planes, they leave undone issues that can help their districts and our state.”

The Texas Constitution requires a quorum, made up of two-thirds of lawmakers in the Legislature, to proceed. The Democrats are holding up the special session that was convened to pass laws to tighten elections security, which Democrats oppose.

The group of lawmakers made their way to Washington, D.C. Monday in the hopes of pressuring the U.S. Congress into passing the For the People Act voting overhaul that Democrats can’t ram through. They also took the opportunity to sing “We Shall Overcome” in an embarrassing and overwrought political stunt.

The group of Democratic lawmakers have vowed to stay in Washington until the end of the term this August to effectively obstruct efforts to pass legislation. In turn, Abbot has promised to have the lawmakers arrested when they return to Texas so they can be brought to the chambers to continue with the Texas Legislature’s official business.

Fellow Texas politicians were incensed by these actions, with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) calling it “nothing short of a political stunt and cheap political theater,” Fox News reported. “They’re protesting doing the jobs they were elected to do, and instead flying to Washington, D.C. on private jets. Texas is considering an important bill that would strengthen Texas’s voting rights and election integrity.”

Democrats are so vehemently opposed to elections integrity ostensibly because it amounts to “voter suppression.” However, there is no evidence any of the proposed measures do anything of the sort — so what are Democrats afraid of if their political victories are not dependent on fraud?
