Two NC Republican lawmakers rammed multiple times by a truck on trip home

Two North Carolina Republicans had an especially scary evening this week as the vehicle in which they were traveling was reportedly rammed.

According to The Daily Wire, North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore and State Rep. David Willis were traveling back to Raleigh from attending several events in Wilson, North Carolina when their vehicle was "rammed several times" on the highway.

The outlet noted: "Moore represents District 111 and is currently serving his 11th term in the state legislature. Willis represents District 68 and is serving in his second term."

"Security was driving the Speaker and Rep. Willis back to Raleigh after a visit to Wilson for a series of events today,” a spokesperson for Moore said in a statement. “On the drive back, the vehicle was rammed from behind several times."

According to the latest reports, nobody was hurt in the attack on the state congressman's vehicle.

"General Assembly police and highway patrol responded and the circumstances are under investigation," the statement said, but some on Twitter suggested what many are thinking: Were they targeted?

"State lawmakers have specialized license plates—but the numbers are confusing and don’t line up with their district numbers. Regardless, have to wonder if someone recognized Moore’s car and rammed him intentionally or if it was just random road rage," WRAL's Will Doran tweeted.

The state lawmakers described the encounter to the News Observer.

"Imagine this: We’re on Highway 64 coming in, at decent highway speeds, when a car — bam! — comes up behind us and hits us once," Moore told the outlet. "I was like, ‘What the hell is that? Bam, hits us again, bam, hits us a third time."

Moore added: "That thing could’ve gone south really fast."

The News Observer added:

The suspect was then arrested. James Matthew Brogden faces a misdemeanor DWI charge in the incident, according to online court records. He was released on an unsecured bond, and is scheduled to appear in Wake County court on March 17 at 2 p.m. Freeman said he faces other charges as well.

It'll be interesting the see if the driver had a political motive to attack the Republicans. In this day and age, with the extremism and violent actions pushed by the left, there's no telling.
