When history finally tells the story of the 2020 presidential election, it won’t be about the coronavirus pandemic or President Donald Trump’s controversial tweets. Rather, it will be about how social media became the “Mighty Wurlitzer” that manipulated public opinion right up until the very end.
Although Trump will surely hand over the reins of power peacefully once all pending litigation is settled, the announced move is indicative of social media’s outsized role in the election.
Other handles such as @whitehouse, @VP, @FLOTUS will also transition that day as well. It isn’t so much the switch over that is the story — by then the legal challenges will be resolved and the man sworn in that day will have received the appropriate Electoral College votes — but rather how Twitter has handled the matter all along.
Social media was unapologetically in the tank for Biden all along. For instance, Facebook and Twitter outright censored damaging stories about former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden and his shady foreign dealings. After the New York Post broke the story in late October, the publication had its Twitter handle locked for publishing the story despite its undisputed factual accuracy.
Yep, the biggest election meddling came from Big Tech and Big Media colluding to squash an undeniably legitimate news story about Joe Biden’s family business ties to the Chinese Communist Party. The value of their collusion and censorship on his behalf is staggering. https://t.co/zxrXIsY4xy

That was only the tip of the iceberg for social media’s election interference, however. Many posts about the Democratic candidate or questionable election results were flagged and labeled, with users noticing it would only happen to stories that would negatively impact Biden. For this reason, many users jumped ship from the establishment social media to join alternatives like Parler, Fox News reported.
The announcement of the switchover on Jan. 20 is just a continuation of their same blatant favoritism for the Biden and blind hatred for Trump. The president has yet to concede the election while legal challenges are still pending, delaying the transition to a Biden administration while it is all being sorted out.
“Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021,” Nick Pacilio Twitter spokesperson, told Politico in an email, indicating the platform does not have the same respect for the lawful process. “As we did for the presidential transition in 2017, this process is being done in close consultation with the National Archives and Records Administration.” As a private citizen, Trump will maintain his @realDonaldTrump account while the tweets from the official presidential account will be archived. Biden will take over starting at zero tweets.
With the announcement of this latest action, the tech giant is signaling their idea that Biden is unequivocally the winner despite pending charges of voter fraud and irregularities that the Trump campaign is still battling over in court. Twitter is simply running roughshod over Trump’s legal right to challenge by announcing they’re accepting election results before the matter is fully settled. If anyone wondered who Twitter wanted to win in 2020, these latest moves remove all doubt.
