Tucker Carlson's video beats Fox News in the ratings

The Washington Examiner reports that the video Tucker Carlson released after his departure from Fox News has received more views than Fox managed to receive in its prime-time slot.

Carlson released the video on Wednesday. Within one hour of its release, it received 1.8 million views. Within 24 hours of its release, it obtained 57 million views.

On Tuesday night, Brian Kilmeade, the Fox News host who was substituted into Carlson's 8 p.m. time slot last week, only received 1.7 million viewers, and that number only got worse as the week went on.

Carlson's last program was on Friday, April 21. He pulled 2.65 million viewers, and he routinely pulls in excess of 3 million viewers.

On the Monday after Carlson's departure, Fox had 2.6 million viewers in the 8 p.m. time slot. On Tuesday, as stated, Fox had 1.7. And, by Wednesday, Fox was down to only 1.33 million.

That's a drop of nearly 60% from Carlson's usual viewership numbers.

In addition, Fox Corporation, lost about $1 billion - or 5% of its stock - in the minutes after Carlson's departure was announced.

What this goes to show is just how popular Carlson is.

A recent poll from Rasmussen Reports, in fact, found that Carlson is more popular than Fox itself, by a score of 59% to 52%. The poll also found that significantly more Americans believe that Carlson's departure from Fox will make Fox worse, rather than better: 32% to 19%.

This all raises the question: why did Fox part ways with Carlson?

We still do not know the answer. Fox, in announcing Carlson's departure, only said this:

FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor. Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21stFox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.

And, Carlson, in the video that he released on Wednesday, didn't address the situation directly.

So, there are still a lot of unknowns about the situation, which has led to a lot of speculation about what might be going on behind the scenes.

Whatever the case may be, Carlson's future is clear: he is extremely popular and will likely bounce back better than ever, should he choose to remain in the business of political commentary. Fox's future, on the other hand, is looking more and more tenuous.
