Tucker Carlson warns "there is no coming back," from indictment of Donald Trump

A Manhattan grand jury made the unprecedented move to indict former President Donald Trump Thursday, the Daily Caller reported. Fox News's Tucker Carlson issued a grave warning that "there is no coming back from this moment."

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg issued the indictment Thursday. The charges stem from a $130,000 hush money payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels.

Carlson made his remarks on his "Tucker Carlson Tonight" program shortly after the news broke. "American politics was thrown into complete chaos, perhaps permanently, about three hours ago when a grand jury in Manhattan, one of the most liberal cities in America, a place where 80% voted for Joe Biden in the last election, decided to indict Biden's political opponent in the upcoming election, the Republican front-runner, a man who leads by 30 points in polls, Donald Trump," Carlson said Thursday.

"The jury did this at the urging of a man called Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney who has been famous by making the city much more dangerous by refusing to enforce laws against crimes like robbery and rape," he added. Bragg reduced 52% of felony charges to misdemeanors, allowing more criminals to roam free, the New York Post reported.

However, when it comes to the former president, Bragg seems intent on using the full extent of the law against Trump. "Now, we don't know at this hour what the indictment says," Carlson conceded.

"We don't know specifically what the charges are, but previous news reports suggest they will emanate from an alleged payment seven years ago, a payment that federal regulators said violated no law but that Alvin Bragg apparently believes is a crime. Either way, the net result is Donald Trump is the first former president of the United States ever to be indicted," Carlson added.

"So, no matter what happens next, we can be certain there is no coming back from this moment," the host warned. "There could be retaliation from red states," Carlson predicted.

"The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has already issued a statement saying that he will not participate in any extradition of Donald Trump to New York," Carlson said of the Republican. "That's apparently scheduled for next week."

"As you can probably tell, we're not certain of the full outlines of the story, but we know this moment is a historic one," Carlson said. The host went on to mention other concurrent cases against Trump and the implications of such witch hunts meant to bar him from a reelection bid.

"This indictment is something brand new, the beginning of something," Carlson said. "It is also a culmination of something, the culmination of an effort to make certain, to make sure that Donald Trump is never elected president again."

"That was the whole purpose of the January 6th committee. So far, it is not working, Trump is leading the Republican field for the nomination by a wide margin," Carlson pointed out.

"As far as we know, the DOJ is still investigating Donald Trump on another pretextual offense, supposedly storing classified documents at his home, something we later discovered that virtually everyone who has served in federal office does, including Mike Pence," Carlson said of the former vice president. "But take three steps back, pause for a minute and consider the escalation of tactics on display here," he instructed.

Carlson noted how the crusade against Trump began in 2016 when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's campaign created the Russia collusion narrative from whole cloth, and the FBI ran with it. "The rule of law appears to be suspended tonight, not just for Trump, but for anyone who would consider voting for him," Carlson said.

It is not hyperbole to say that something has dramatically changed after this. What happens next for Trump is still unknown, but the damage to the nation has already been done.
